DESIGNING SUSTAINABILITY - FOR OUR PLANET’S STABLE FUTURE

The lobby of the "Langer Eugen", in the main building of the United Nations in Bonn, was redesigned by yellow design and solemnly instated in its use as a place to rest and inform.

The high-rise building, designed in the 60s by Egon Eiermann, is a listed building, which presented a particular challenge in the design of the furnishings and exhibits.

The aim of the concept was to create a place of encounter and communication for employees and international visitors of the organizations in the house, with high quality of stay and adequate ambience.

The lobby not only strengthens the new corporate identity of UN Bonn, but also creates a digital-analogue information hub that highlights the world wide activities of the United Nations.

A central element is the "Representation Wall" with flexibly modifiable graphics boards and room for information material. This is where all organizations represented in Bonn introduce themselves.

Guests are invited to linger in the large lounge with touch-table, where visitors and staff can find out more about the UN and its various organizations and activities.

A digital "news wall" gives a live overview of the current UN activities on various channels such as Instagram, Twitter and the UN Web TV.

For the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), yellow design has conceived, designed and implemented an exhibition on the history of the World Climate Change Conference.

In close cooperation with the UN, historians and curators, yellow design developed a multi-faceted view on 25 years of international debates on progressive climate policy.

The staging of the exhibition took place under the aspects lightness, liveliness and optimism. Filigree showcases, simplified graphic elements, white spaces and a flexible design grid form the core elements, whose concept and design additionally underline the organization's claim to resource-saving activities.
